Three sisters Cibi, Magda and Livia, promise their father that they will always stay together. At the tender age of 15, Livia is sent to Auschwitz. Cibi, the eldest and only 19 herself, honours her promise and follows Livia, determined to protect her, or die with her. They fight to stay alive through incomprehensible cruelty and hardship.

The third sister Magda is 17, stays with her family, hiding in a neighbour’s attic or in the forest when the Nazis round up friends, neighbours and family. She evades capture for a while, but is eventually caught and taken to the death camp. There she is reunited with her sisters and remembering their father they promise to survive..
