In 1943 the German Army invaded the peaceful island of Jersey in the Channel Islands. Grace La Motée, the librarian, is ordered to destroy any books which oppose the Nazi regime. Determined to keep the library running she refuses, hides the books, and fights back by forming a book club. One chapter at a time she provides a lifeline to help the islanders escape the terrors of occupation.

But Grace isn’t all she seems and her bravery puts her life in danger. Tensions become violence, and she is forced to face the terrible price of resistance . . .
