Long Walk October 1st led by Chris Mansfield
12 walkers met at KOC for a local walk up and over to Cadsden then on and still climbing to reach Little Hampden. The weather was rather grey and drizzley at times but we didn’t get too wet. From Little Hampden we walked to Buckmoor End where most of the group bought a drink at the farmshop and we all sat an enjoyed a break, though still not very warm. Onwards across the Chequers estate, where we surprisingly encountered some curious cows though they weren’t really a problem, and then continuing on along the Ridgeway with improving weather and some good views before turning off to go downhill, cross the A4010 and then across fields to reach the Three Crowns at Askett for lunch. After a good lunch and a natter we set off for the last mile back to Monks Risborough with the sun now shining beautifully!
Strollers October 13th led by Helen Crookdake
Seven strollers met in Stokenchurch on a rather grey morning. We set off at 10.30 through the village and on downhill past Hallbottom farm to reach Colliers Lane running along the valley bottom. After walking for half a mile we turned sharp right across fields now going gently uphill back towards our starting point. It was a very peaceful walk, with lovely views and trees now turning into beautiful colours. We arrived back in Stokenchurch soon after 12 after a very pleasant walk.
Medium October 17th led by Jeane Richards
6.5 mile walk starting at the pay and display public car park in the village of Hambleden, Henley on Thames next to the Stag and Huntsman pub. There were about 6-7 stiles and a few small gradual hills, one short sharp ascent and a long descent.
The start of the walk heads south from the car park, with views over the Hambleden valley then the short sharp ascent at Killdown Bank and heading on towards Chalkpit Wood. Continue past Burrow Farm till you reach Rotten Row and turn left onto the Shakespeare Way that merges with The Chiltern Way. Turning left through woods and fields to reach the village of Rockwell End, then circle round and the gradual descent to Pheasant’s Hill. The route cuts through the village of Pheasant’s Hill to the lower path in the valley that leads back to Hambleden and St Mary’s church.
