Long Walk February 5th led by Angela Wall
On a fine, sunny, February morning, 18 walkers assembled at The Black Horse in Lacey Green and began walking downhill through Loosely Row, past the foundry, through a large field, over a stile designed by someone with 6 ft long legs, to the main Wycombe road. Gingerly crossing the busy road, we walked along the lane to Saunderton Lee and took a path on the left which eventually joined the path to the foot of Lodge Hill. After climbing up the hill, we had a lovely walk along the top, stopping for a coffee break with a fantastic view on both sides. Descending the hill, we took the path towards Bledlow and eventually, passing through fields of sheep, we arrived in the village.
After a series of paths across fields and along lanes we arrived at Saunderton church where we turned right and crossed the railway line. Passing by the old Saunderton rectory, we took paths through more fields and reached and re-crossed the Wycombe road. Passing the stables at the foot of the hill, we wearily climbed up to Lacey Green and followed Low Road and some paths back to the pub. A lovely late Winter walk with fine weather and not too much mud.
Strollers February 10th – led by Brendan
Just 5 strollers participated on the stroll on a rather damp and cold morning. It was a local walk from the top of New road, over fields to Loosley Row and then back down by a different route, all completed before more rain set in.
Medium walk February 21st led by John Stallwood
Start White Lion pub St Leonards nr Tring. MR SP 928069. Approx 5 and half miles distance.
15 of us started out from pub car park at 9.40. Weather expected to be showery, it didn’t disappoint but it wasn’t a problem and stayed away most of the time. We picked up the Chiltern Way long distance path which passed through the car park, we followed this through fields and woods for about mile and half. We turned away onto the Grime’s Ditch which we followed for another mile or so mostly on a track way. After a small hamlet of Lanes End it was a mix of road, field and woods, we crossed over another section of Grim’s Ditch we had followed earlier. After passing the moated Dunridge Manor it was only a short distance to our finish back at the pub. For those who stayed for a meal it was well worth it and different from our normal fare. Spanish Tapas inspired, delicious. A good walk with a great finish.
