Long walk December 4th led by Libby & Ger
17 of us and 2 dogs began at the Boot Pub in Bledlow Ridge, we all managed to get down the steep slope safely to Radnage and enjoyed a sunny walk along the path before puffing our way up the rise towards Chinnor Hill.
Coffee was had on Chinnor Hill admiring the mist covered view, then we slithered down the track to join the Chiltern Way. We walked past sheep and horses (no cows) and Banjo took it upon himself to cross the road to the tip on his own – luckily he had got to the far side safely! We passed Callow Down Farm where I was informed of a horrid murder that occurred in the 70’s, it’s always nice to get what is now historical data. Then we made our way up to reach the Boot for food and drink, just dodging the rain. Unfortunately, this establishment had no cider, which threw our leader a problem of choice.
I’m told the walk was 7.1 miles long – calories taken in by the group probably exceeded the calories used!
Strollers December 9th – led by Elizabeth Rouse
A brave little band of nine walkers met at The Three Crowns in rain! However it soon stopped as we set across the muddy fields towards the A4010 . We crossed over and joined the Ridgeway going down to Cadsden. Instead of a short road section we decided to take a footpath to reach the golf club. However a fallen tree on our narrow path surprised us! Some of our fitter walkers climbed a fence and crawled over the large trunk others found a route around by ducking under and over the fencing. John and Brenden were so helpful in helping us negotiate this obstacle. All good fun …..we like a bit of variety!
At Whiteleaf we passed John’s house and he invited us in for coffee. Those who had time enjoyed a warming cuppa on his lovely terrace looking over the Vale of Ayesbury.
A short walk which was far from boring!
Medium walk December 13th led by Chris
Seventeen walkers met at KOC for our last walk of the year on a drizzly, misty morning. We set off at 9.30 to walk over the fields to Whiteleaf golf course where we took the path that runs behind the club house down to Cadsden as usual path was blocked by a fallen tree. We followed the valley path from here, turning left at the end to reach and cross the Cadsden road and later joining the ridgeway which we followed to Chequers Knap, a hillock giving wide views over the Vale of Aylesbury – unfortunately rather murky due to the low cloud. After a short coffee break we continued on, soon leaving the Ridgeway to follow a path taking us down and across the Aylesbury road, through Great Kimble then back along fields and beside the railway line to reach the Three Crowns at Askett just after 12 noon. Three walkers left us here but another 7 joined us for a jolly lunch all served quickly and efficiently by the lovely team at the pub. After a good meal and lots of chat we left to walk the last ¾ mile back to KOC – a lovely end of year walk enjoyed by all.
