Hughenden Manor Walk
We were fortunate to have bright summer weather on this day in early April. The sky was blue and clear and we heard plenty of birdsong. We started at Downley and walked through the woods with a good view of the Hughenden Valley and stopped for a coffee break at the Manor tea rooms. Then we walked back towards the village of Downley on another track to get to West Wycombe. We then had a choice of either to walk up to the Mausoleum and back, or to make a straight return to Downley through fields. We chose not to go up to the Mausoleum as we all knew that circuit well and we didn’t want to be late for the pub lunch. So we walked back to the De Le Spencer Arms early and they looked after us very well despite that.
Strollers April 14th – led by Elizabeth Rouse
10 walkers met at Speen School on a sunny April morning.
We walked down the valley and across fields to Flowers Bottom. A small detour had to be made as on my recce one of the stiles was broken and access was difficult. The detour did involve a “double” stile (bit like an obstacle course) and a very short steep climb (about 50 yards) but all managed it OK. Good views. We met, at very close range, pretty Billy goats (fenced off from us!). We crossed back over Speen Road then dropped down onto Highwood Bottom Lane then turned into woods with a short gentle climb back into Speen.
