Taster Session at High Wycombe Croquet Club
On 22nd August 2019 32 U3A members valiantly took up the cry to do battle at the High Wycombe Croquet Club. We were greeted with the sign reading “Princes Risborough U3A World Croquet Championships” and, true to their word, we were all teamed up to represent various countries that do take part in the (real) world championships.
With the amazing support and encouragement from the members of the club, we learnt, enjoyed, fought and (in some cases) won our croquet challenges. A wonderful break, fuelled by tea and cakes, recharged many of us to carry on the fight to the bitter end and I believe all were reluctant to finally hand in our hammers at the end of the afternoon.
The best outcome from the event is that we are hoping to set up a regular U3A croquet group. Anyone interested in joining us please let me know. One or two members did offer on the day to possibly help organise it but the more the better, so if you would like to help out with this, again, please let me know. I’m currently waiting for further information about costs from the club but am aware that the secretary is currently on holiday. Watch out for emails and our website for further details.
Finally, I’m sure everyone in attendance will agree with me in expressing our greatest thanks to the High Wycombe Croquet Club for a truly enjoyable, informative and entertaining afternoon.
