This year our U3A Christmas meeting was a Christmas meeting like no other before, as it had to be held on Zoom.
Babs organized a Christmas Quizz and she appeared on screen in a jolly Christmas outfit. She had prepared a quiz consisting of 45 questions. These were groups of topics such as anagrams of words connected with Christmas, Christmas customs in other countries (Where is the Giant Lantern Festival held?)(In what country are brooms hidden away on Christmas Eve?). We also had to identify Christmas carol tunes played on the piano with some of the notes omitted, general knowledge questions with a Christmas theme (What is a baby reindeer called?) and word games known as dingbats, also Christmas related.
We were allowed to cheat, which was just as well, otherwise I think many of our scores would have been much lower! After each group of questions, we were allowed a short break to try and find some of the answers, e.g. on Google or Alexa. Some, like the anagrams and dingbats, required pure brain power.
It was good fun and engendered some much needed Christmas cheer. The main disadvantages this year, of course, was that not only could we not meet and greet one another in person, but we also had to provide our own wine and mince pies! But well done, Babs, for all your imaginative hard work. It was a most enjoyable afternoon. Thanks very much.
