The book tells the story of a young woman wanting to become a war correspondent and mistakenly taking a job working on a woman’s magazine. There she end up responding to agony aunt letters the editor thinks are unsuitable and eventually being found out.
Our feelings about this book were very mixed. From enjoying it to the point of reading the sequel, to thinking the second half was rather silly and that the main character was too over the top. We did enjoy learning about how people coped with living through the blitz, the heartaches they faced and the work of the fire brigade rescuing people from bombed out houses.
We gave it a marking of 7 out of 10.
