Janine Kilroe, a professional fine art photographer, spoke to us about her career and the way her technique has evolved over time. Janine has exhibited her work at the Royal Academy and the Saatchi Gallery in London, and her images have been published in the British Journal of Photography, EOS Magazine and other publications. Her talk featured some beautiful examples of her hand tinted images. These are printed in black and white on watercolour paper and then selectively hand coloured to emphasise particular aspects of the image leaving the rest of the image untouched.
Her ‘Carousel Brighton’ image, which features on the home page of her website, was exhibited at the Royal Academy’s summer show. It was fascinating to hear how she hand painted the coloured stripes on the deckchairs in the image using a magnifier and a brush so fine it only had a couple of bristles. Her Rocking Seahorse features sterling silver dapples and a 22ct gold mane which add to the dream like feeling of the image.
Janine also uses drones to produce videos, some of which have been exhibited at the Royal West of England Academy in Bristol. She shared two of them with us, giving us a bird’s eye view of the West Pier and Cornwall.
