Wednesday September 6th Long walk led by Bill
11 walkers met at the Red Lion, Penn on a very warm morning with a promise of temperatures reaching 30 degrees C. We set off at 9.30 taking field and woodland paths to reach Winchmore Hill and then on to Coleshill where we stopped for a coffee break in the beautiful churchyard. It didn’t seem too hot up to this point but on the return trip to Penn and the last mile walking along the road through the village it was extremely hot and we were all very relieved to arrive back at the pub where we sat inside in the cool and enjoyed cold drinks and good food. A lovely walk, mostly flat.
Monday September 11th – stroll led by Elizabeth
On a sunny Autumn day nine of us set off from the bottom of Forge Lane in Naphill and wandered through open woodland on good paths. We arrived at Hunts Hill Lane and after about 1/2 mile turned on a footpath towards Hughenden Manor crossing open fields towards Coffin Lane. We then returned to Naphill via Coffin Lane and some beautiful residential housing, eventually crossing Naphill playing fields and joined the lane behind Naphill High Road and back to Forge Lane.
Friday September 15th medium walk led by John
Seven of us met at the Full Mooon Cholesbury for the start of the walk. We started off walking west taking the path left, opposite Cholesbury camp, slightly downhill then right along the field edge, across 4 fields keeping to this path we crossed a minor road passing Dundridge Manor. Taking the path to the right past Stonehill Wood after a little while a short stretch of road led us to Baldwin Wood after about half km we took a well used but unofficial path to the right. The fir trees were quite dark but soon reached an open avenue which arrived at a 3way road junction, where we stopped for a short break. The road opposite took us to Lanes End, a short left turn then right led us onto a path to Leylands Farm. A right turn then left a track ledus along Grimes ditch for about half km, then we took a path to the right across a field and into a wood. Following the path in through the wood was difficult due to lack of markers and other paths crossing but we managed ok. We then took the path across a couple of fields to a road, turn left to another road straight across field opposite across another road down a very narrow path at side a property across yet another 2 fields drops down onto the road leading back to the pub. After a very pleasant meal we dispersed for our journey home.
