Wednesday December 7th Long walk led by Sue
This was a circular walk of 7 miles which started at The Golden Cross public house at Saunderton. The day was cold but sunny. Ten members met at the public house at 9.30 am. From here we crossed the A4010 and walked across fields towards Bradenham. We then ascended through Great Cookshall Woods towards Cookshall Farm. Here we took advantage of the benches and picnic tables at Cookshall Farm for a coffee stop before descending again via a country lane, fields and coppices back towards West Wycombe. We recrossed the A4010 and ascended the side of West Wycombe hill via a diagonal path which avoided the steep path towards the Mausoleum. We walked along the ridge towards Saunderton and continued on to a country lane which led us back to The Golden Cross where we were made welcome and had an enjoyable lunch.

Friday December 16th medium walk led by Chris
Fourteen of us met at Kings Oak Close on a snowy, very cold but gloriously sunny day for a local walk in the hills. We would have been more but unfortunately 7 had succumbed to a nasty flu type virus that was making the rounds, The pavements were very icy so we walked up Mill Lane on the road, but once into the hills it was magical – and not slippery at all. Our route took us over to Cadsden then up the valley path which was beautiful with snow clinging to all the bushes and tree branches. We continued on, later crossing the Cadsden road and on to join the Ridgeway where we climbed a snowy hillock – Chequers Knap from where we had wonderful views. After a short break we set off again down from the hillock still on the Ridgeway but soon taking a sharp left had turn to walk down across snowy fields to reach a lane leading us down to the main road at Kimble. After crossing the road we followed field paths to Askett and the Three Crowns for lunch where we were joined by 3 others who had not wanted to walk in the snow. The pub had set up 2 long tables in the Stable bar and after ordering drinks our pre-ordered lunches were served speedily and efficiently by the very friendly staff. A jolly good time was had by all before we set off to walk the last half mile or so back to Monks Risborough. A very successful last walk of the year!
