Wednesday August 3rd Long walk led by Sharon Clark
13 walkers met outside the Greyhound Pub in Aldbury for an 8 mile circular walk. From Aldbury the walk passed the Church and headed across fields and down into Tring. Turning left just before the canal, the path followed the Ridgeway towards Tring Park and onto Wiggington and another Greyhound Pub. Taking a left after the pub, the walk then followed the Chiltern Way for 2.5 miles to reach Cow Roast. From here, the route headed across various fields and then turned right into the woods that eventually lead towards the Bridgewater Monument. From the monument it was a simple, though steep, half mile walk back towards Aldbury. It was a lovely varied walk with fields, woods, parkland, canal and the very pretty village of Aldbury with a duck pond and stocks.
Monday August 8th stroll led by Elizabeth Rouse
Twenty four strollers – a record number – met outside the Lions of Bledlow on a warm and sunny morning. WE set off at 10.30 to walk through the village then along field paths ang quiet lanes returning to Bledlow via the church where some of the group went off to visit the Lyde garden – a pretty sunken garden. It was a very warm day and the pace was gentle with stops for drinks and views.
Friday August 19th medium walk led by Chris Mansfield
Fifteen walkers met at the Red Lion, Coleshill on a lovely summer morning, sunny but with a light breeze, perfect walking weather. We set off at 10.50 to walk through the village viewing its many large and expensive properties before taking a footpath out of the village and on down across fields with wonderful view over Amersham and beyond all the way.
We joined the road at Amersham briefly before setting off along a track and later up a long but gentle inciline to reach Roger’s Wood where we had a well earned coffee break sitting on logs in the wood .Setting off again it was mostly flat across fields with wide views later descending to a lane at Upper Bottom farm – passing through a field with cows, calves and a bull! Fortunately they were not interested in us though 2 people and a dog did find an alternative way just in case. We continued on walking along the lane until its junction with the Chiltern Way where we turned right to follow it over lots of fields and crossing one very busy main road to reach the pub at Coleshill arriving at 12.45. Nine of us stayed for lunch which was served very pleasantly in the front garden in the shade of trees and umbrellas. A lovely walk apart from the busy main road.
