Visit to RHS Wisley Monday August 15th
Heatwave! We were wondering whether we would be completely scorched by the sun and heat and that RHS Wisley gardens would be frizzled and brown. But we needn’t have worried! Yes, it was very warm but the heatwave was beginning to wane and although parts of the gardens were past their best, there were many parts that were beautiful. The long herbaceous borders were still wonderfully colourful and the plants in the exotic garden were exuberantly tropical. It was interesting to note the plants that were more resistant to the drought conditions and those that were suffering. The Hilltop with its world food garden was popular with families and it was lovely to see the small children paddling in the rill in the Wellbeing Garden. The colours were more faded than usual and most of the grassland was brown with just occasional areas of green where it had been watered. But plenty of shade, good cafes and air-conditioned retail therapy enabled us to keep cool and enjoy the day. Wisley is always lovely at any time of the year.
