The theatre group have celebrated Christmas with two great musical trips.
Firstly, we went to Aylesbury to see the live streaming of Coppelia from Covent Garden. This was a beautiful production, colourful and full of movement and life. It was a joy from start to finish and everyone came away with smiles on their faces and praise on their lips. What a good start to this happy season.
Our second trip was to Oxford on 13th December to enjoy “Christmas at Christ Church” and we were not disappointed. The choristers were in fine voice and the music not the usual carols, except for two in which the audience participated, but beautiful and joyful. We heard a rendering of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” that nobody had heard before and everyone thoroughly enjoyed. It is amazing in how many variations you can sing on the line “Five Gold Rings”. The readings were different which maybe disappointed a few. We heard the about the journey to Bethlehem and Christ’s birth as expected but then came a reading from “The Wind in the Willows” where the little field mice came to sing carols outside Mole’s front door and were invited in for mulled ale and supper. Unconventional given the setting, but none the less in the spirit of the season. The last reading was about a little Christmas tree brought in and lovingly decorated by children.
