Our October visit to the National Arboretum at Westonbirt was our final trip of 2023 and we were rewarded with a splendid day out. The weather was dry but chilly and it was not vey conducive to sitting outside for too long. After a lovely journey through the Cotswolds, we arrived at Westonbirt and were met by a staff member who gave us our maps and discount vouchers for buying goods in the gift shop and refreshments in the café. We then dispersed in different directions but most people headed for the café for coffee and cake before heading off into the woods. The arboretum is packed with the most wonderful trees from all over the world. Although the Autumn colours were not yet fully developed, wandering through the Acer Glade, Maple Loop and along the many drives and rides was spectacular. The size and height of many of the trees were awe inspiring and the sensational STIHL treetop walkway enabled us to discover the hidden world of the tree canopy. A truly magical and amazing place to explore and with excellent food in the café and retail therapy in the well-stocked gift shop, we had the most enjoyable day’s visit.
