Our November meeting was the first in our new venue of Princes Risborough Bowls Club. A wonderful crowd of 70 members listened to a thought-provoking talk, ‘Plants and Climate Change’, given by Professor Sandy Primrose. Sandy talked about climate change over the millennia and factors such as temperature, carbon dioxide and water levels that affect plant growth. Shortage of water has the greatest effect on plant growth and the world-wide increase in water consumption for industrial, domestic and agricultural use is unsustainable. Plants have adaptations to help them resist water shortage and in future we should be planting crops and garden plants that require less water and are more drought-resistant. A really interesting and stimulating talk which gave us a lot to think about
