Wednesday February 2nd Long walk led by Angela Wall
Twelve of us met at the Cricket Club car park in Wendover on a grey but dry morning. We set off towards Wendover and turned left to walk uphill and over the bypass. On reaching the paths leading to Coombe Hill, we took the left-hand path which took us behind the houses on Ellesborough Road. A lovely walk through the woods with Aylesbury Vale on our right and along the way, we had sneak views into the huge back gardens of the big houses. Passing through some stables we came to a steep slope over which we performed acrobatics to get down to a right-hand sunken path that led to the main road.
After crossing the road, we walked over Ellesborough golf course, avoiding flying balls and greeting golfers on the way, until we came to the Aylesbury Ring. Turning left over a difficult stile, we walked along a not-too-muddy path until we came to a path on the left which took us uphill to Ellesborough church. We stopped for a Werthers and then carried on over the road and up the path that skirted round Beacon Hill. Reaching the top of the steps, we took the path that led to the Cradle footpath above Chequers and eventually after walking down and over the Chequers drive, we arrived at Buckmoorend Farm shop only to find the kitchen closed! However, some of us bought a coffee and others had brought their own, so after a rest we set of again up the hill and turned left along the track leading back towards Ellesborough. On reaching the cross paths above Coombe Hill Farm, we took a right turn up a very steep hill and then turned left half way up on to a path which gently led up along the flank of Coombe Hill with wonderful views. On reaching the summit we stopped for a short while to enjoy the view, before making our way downhill to The Shoulder of Mutton in Wendover. A good meal meant that we were refreshed and rested before walking the short distance back to the car park after a good morning’s walk.

Ten of us met at West Wycombe by the old garden centre carpark at 10.30am on a dry but cloudy day. We set off to walk gently uphill across fields to Great Cockshoots wood. We walked through the woods then along a track leading down to Chorley farm. After crossing 2 roads we turned right along the 3rd to reach the main road soon turning off left to gently climb behind houses to follow a path back to West Wycombe. Despite all the recent rain we only encountered one very muddy area which we were able to find our way around.
