We will take a look at ‘Kantha’ stitching.

This is a technique from India, where poverty has led to the development of a

sophisticated method of layering up worn fabrics to create a new textile. Layers of

dhotis or saris are sewn together with a white thread using a running stitch. Motifs are

outlined with a black thread and filled in with colour.

Please bring a sewing kit, a piece of fabric to stitch on and a small selection of embroidery threads.
