A talk by Professor Sandy Primrose – “Roses, Romans and Renaissance” – the history of the nation’s favourite flower.  The rose was just as popular in ancient Rome and during the Middle Ages it featured strongly in art and literature. It’s popularity resulted in an extensive breeding that has lasted for over 200 years and is exemplified today by David Austin’s classic English Roses.
