Our first real face to face meeting with an outside speaker in a wonderful, warm, inviting new venue. With so many unknowns about the event it was a huge pleasure to see so many turn out, the new format of tea and coffee as you arrive seemed to go well and grateful thanks to the members of the table tennis group for their efficiency. I was hugely impressed by the number of members who remembered to bring their own mugs. I can recommend the thermal mugs with lids that enable you to keep drinking your hot tea throughout the meeting. Thanks also to the chairs team that pitched up and organised the layout for the day. I mustn’t forget to give a big thank you to Stephen for sorting the audio and video systems.
And onto the talk. Jeff Evans presented a very comprehensive, passionate and very knowledgeable talk about the history of the pop music television programmes since the advent of the genre with Six Five Special back in 1957. He took us through the successes and failures of different programmes and how they launched so many artists of the 60’s and 70’s. We were taken down memory lane with names of groups and individuals, both musicians and presenters, including the famous “I’ll give it 5” girl Janice Nicholls, who, apparently, soon left the limelight to marry and become a chiropodist.
Thanks go to Jeff for a wonderful afternoon; I was just missing my mini skirt and kinky boots!
